K Staton Boutique is very excited and overjoyed to announce the expansion to our own larger location. K Staton Boutique since its opening has been located at 817 West 36th in Hampden (inside Lynne’s Gifts). We are so thankful for the location that has allowed our clientele to get familiar with the staff, our products, and our mission to inspire women with “kurves” to love themselves.  After numerous write-ups in local publications, winning the esteemed “Best of Baltimore” title for “Best New Boutique” (in our first year of operation) and clothing so many gorgeous women, with your help and support K Staton Boutique is ready to make the transition to go the next level.

Thankfully, the new location is just two blocks down from where we currently are. The address of the new location is 1007A West 36th Street, Baltimore, MD 21211. In looking for a new location, one of K Staton’s goals was to remain a part of the great shopping district and residential neighborhood of Hampden (The Ave) that we all have come to love! The new location is directly across from the famous pink flamingo at Café Hon. Hampden provides an array of shopping, dining, and entertainment that suit the needs of K Staton Boutique shoppers. Our ladies will still have great shopping, dining and parking to choose from in getting to know the other half of “The Ave”.

Why are we moving? Initially this was the vision for the K Staton to have a spot of its own and now is the time to move forward. The addition of more square footage will allow increasing apparel options, a jewelry selection, and the introduction of tasteful lingerie for the curvier figure. This is project is looking to be the  #1 most exciting venture that K Staton has done this far. Just as our apparel selections cater to the curvy women size 12+ so will our lingerie. We will introduce two brands Elomi & Goddess. Goddess is a US brand that fits up to a 48K cup and Elomi is a UK based brand that fits up to a 44J cup. K Staton is excited because not only are these brands functional and supportive but also they are sexy and feminine.

This move we also allow us to offer our FIT 101 classes. Classes are now set to take place on a quarterly schedule with the additional space to offer diverse offer classes. For those of you who were not able to make it our first FIT 101 class in April 2011 it was a success.  Women left with good information and the confidence to use the tips giving to them to feel comfortable, courageous, empowered in the outfits they put together.

Again, we want to thank all the beautiful “KURVY” women who have ever walked through our doors, recommended K Staton to a friend, every magazine who published a word to support us, each blogger that took the time to share this awesome boutique with your readers. We look forward to this amazingly welcomed change to continue to provide trendy, sophisticated clothing to women sizes 12+ in a larger capacity.

New location reopening September 10, 2011 address: 1007A West 36th Street Baltimore, MD 21211 (directly across from HONCafe) 2 blocks from current location.

How to choose the best swimwear for your shape!

July 1, 2011

Hey girls, summer is heating up and vacations are a go! So that means it’s time to find the prefect swimwear that fits your body shape and make you look amazing. When it comes to finding flattering plus size swimwear, what do curvaceous women need to know? Choosing the perfect bathing suit is about more than the color or a design you like. Certain cuts and details can enhance your figure and accentuate your positive points, while downplaying any negatives.

Here are some tips to looking and feeling your best on the beach or at the pool!

1. Make sure that you wear something that flatters your shape and enhances your assets. That means find a suit that plays up your assets and camouflage your problem areas. If you have a large chest a halter size swimsuit will give you the support needed to keep the girls in place or try a two strap suit with a underwire that will lift and support you as well. If you carry most of your weight in the hips, thighs, and butt go for a suite with a low leg line like the Farrah swimsuit by Kiyonna in purple up top.

2. Pick swimsuits with detailing that elongates the body and camouflage our problem areas.  Flattering ruching is one way that create a slimming effect,  it hides the lumps and bumps!  Ruching detail will elongating your body so it’s flattening you, making you look taller, longer,  and leaner. Diagonal details also help quite a bit if you’re a curvy woman trying to camouflage a tummy or to create more of an hourglass shape. Also an important note to remember is wear dark or solid colors on areas of the body you wish to minimize, while focusing vibrant prints and patterns on areas you wish to showcase.

 3.  Ladies you know i am all about support! Find a suit that has built-in support. A swimsuit with soft sewn-in cups, comfy supportive straps and an inner power-mesh lining that creates a smooth, shapewear like effect will not only look great but give you a confidence that will allow you to focus on your back stroke and not your back love handles! ;)

4. Away with the grandma suit! ladies play it up, be sexy. Don’t be afraid of color, print, or feminine details 5. For a playful poolside look, add retro-inspired sunglasses, a chic coverup and leg lengthening espadrilles. My favorite poolside accessory is the sarong! The sarong gives you more fantastic looks for the beach with the different ways you can tie and style them. They come in many colors and prints. You can wear them as a halter dress, a long skirt, or loosely tied to the side for extra coverage.

The “Skinny” on wearing skinny jeans for Kurvy girls!

May 24, 2011

Hey girls I get asked all the time about what should i wear with skinny jeans, leggings, or jeggings. I even get some women who are totally against them. I understand some might feel a little self conscious if you’re not use to them, but I personally love a great pair of skinny jeans or leggings. I do feel there is a limit to what we should wear, but if we can make it work for our own body shape than by all means wear them! With everything it’s all about BALANCE. You must not go skinny or tight on the bottom and top. You have to balance the tight form-fitting pant with a loose tunic style top. There is nothing worse than seeing a women with a pair of skinny jeans on and a small, short, and tight tee-shirt. NO NO NO…. This is not a good look. So I put together a few tips that has helped me along the way.

Tip 1: Always pair with a flowy tunic style top that flows away from the body, one that covers the butt. Also Consider belting the tunic at the waist to creat an hourglass shape.  Another great option for on top would be to layers with a long comfy vest or Cardigan!  (Love this Look!)

Tip 2: Go for a dynamic shoe! It could be a fabulous pair of heels or a sweet feminine flat, you want to elongate the body.

Tip 3: Same rule apply with skinny as bootcut, choose a dark wash verse a lighter one.

Tip 4: Get them longer, just above the ankle instead of mid-calf.

Tip 5: Try wearing a chunky piece of jewelry this will serve to draw the eye up above the body. The key is to elongate everything.

Remember the best Tip of all is to Love who you are!

Bring out your wild side this summer!

Tribal prints are a great way to liven up your look when the days start getting warmer. It’s a bold, fun look that’s easy to work into your wardrobe! I know that some of us curvy women can be a bit fearful of pattern/prints, but it can actually be a really easy look to work and make it work for you! First, just remember FIT and moderation! Second, keep it simple, avoid mixing a lot of different prints; it could look over done, and messy. Lastly, a great way to introduce this style into your wardrobe is a print maxi dress! It’s important to find the color and neckline that works for you (of course!) The maxi is also a great versatile piece as you can dress it up for an evening look, wear with sandals for a casual look, or wear over swimwear for a poolside look when on vacation. I love the casual look with a great flat tribal sandal, beaded necklace, and metal bangles on the wrist! So, I put together at great summer look for you girls!

Gone to Soon.

May 11, 2011

I received a text this morning asking if I heard the new that plus size model Mia Amber Davis had passed away? I was taken a back and sent back a capital “NO, what happen?” I had to research to see if this was true, so i went on the net and it is. I wanted to post on it because Mia was a beautiful full-figured women who had and was making real strides in the fashion world for plus size models. She was an advocate, super model, editor, and actress! I actually first remember seeing Mia when she worked on the Ricki Lake Show! I remember her standing out and thinking, WOW, first she’s beautiful and second a women that looks like me! I instantly remember her when she appeared in the comedy Road Trip.  Again she was confident in who she was and beautiful! She had that something or IT factor that people speak about! She was a voice for all plus size women to love yourself and dream big and go after it. I feel she is still teaching from her untimely death, to live your purpose each day and go for it because tomorrow is not promised. Please join me in the celebration of life and legacy of Mia Amber Davis. Our prayers go out for her family and close friends.

Full Figured Fashion Week 2011

April 23, 2011

The third annual Full Figured Fashion Week 2011 is coming this June and I wanted to share my experience with you girls! If you can go, I say GO, first off it is held in the most exciting city-New York. Secondly, you get to preview before everyone else Fall 2011 collections. Lastly, you meet so many great people!   There are a number of events during the weekend to attend from a NYC Shopping Soiree, panel discussions, and runway competitions.

There is something to say about a woman who has confidence. I think she inspires and encourages others around her.  Well, let me tell you, I was in a room full of that same confidence. Women my size (some larger, some smaller) but none of that mattered. The energy, style, and sense of self acceptance were out of this world at an event during Full Figured Fashion Week in NYC June 2010. I was only able to attend the final runway show and award ceremony but I had so much fun. Being around so many gorgeous women with curves seeing that you can be stylish, sexy, and successful was so inspiring to me. I am telling you even if you are not so sure and secure as others in your curves this crowd will rub off on you. I felt that it was okay to be me! There was no room for insecurity! We, Us, Our curves were being celebrated and you felt it in the air!

In addition, to this great feeling in the atmosphere of belonging to something that we are usually left out of, was great fashion! Some of the best in plus size designers were showing off their amazing designs! Familiar names like IGIGI, Monif C, and Lane Bryant, but also new designers Susan Moses, OSUN Designs, and KRene designs were showing their per Fall collections. Everyone who is everyone in the plus size industry from models to bloggers was checking out the latest in plus size fashions also. The great thing is that it is open to whoever wants to attend. The festivities start Wednesday June 15th and last through Saturday June 18th for more information on events and ticket go to www.fffweek.com

Cold enough to be you!

December 8, 2010

“Cold enough to be you!”

Here in Baltimore the weather is oh so frightful. Temperatures are in the low 30’s. And I love it! September thru March is my most favorite months of the year. Yes, I love the holiday season, but the true reason why I love the weather this time of year are the clothes!  I love the way the cold allows you to dress. The best fashions for “us” women with curves all come out during the colder months. You have scarves; gloves, hats adored with embellishments, and let’s not get started on the boots!!! Leather boots, suede boots and many different colors of boots! We have tights, skirts, cardigans, sweater dresses all so much more interesting. Curvy girls should love this time of year because you can be creative with so many different winter accessories, able to layer, which is functional yet fashionable, and  free to be you.

Winter accessories are a must! This time of year, there is nothing like a mid-thigh length coat with an empire waist, button detail and POCKETS (I love pockets), paired with a bold colored pashmina, gloves, and a cute hat.  Remember girls it first starts off with a great fitted coat for your shape! If your coat is too big than you look saggy and bigger than what you are and if it’s too small you have gapping at the chest, pulling around the back and shoulders and you look very uncomfortable. Ok now that I got that out the way, here is where you can really have some fun! Chunky, bright-colored items are very in this season. Here is where you see the hot hat: the pageboy hat. The style looks good on everyone! Of course there are so many different scarves in style, length, fabric, and colors but my favorite is the pashmina because they are so soft, lightweight which means they fit perfectly under any coat, and the colors are unlimited (only $16 at K Staton Boutique). Gloves are another must have that has become it’s on leading lady! From classic leather gloves to a more youthful fingerless pair, they keep your hands nice and warm.

Ok girls my mission has always been to teach curvy women like myself how to dress for your right shape and fit. So, I have to touch on some “technical issues”.  Most of us carry our weight is the middle and if not your trouble area there is still something there! So layering is great at camouflaging that area. Layering also can create a longer looking line to your body, making you look taller. For example, Take a pair of skinny jeans or thick winter leggings (both available at K Staton Boutique), a tunic style top, and layer with a ruffle front cardigan that hangs a little longer in the front and you look long, warm and fashionable without much fuss at all. Loose layering works to hide lumps and bumps. Also, a well made jacket or blazer with curved seaming preferably front and back will lend shape for a better looking figure flattering silhouette.

Finally, don’t get me wrong I love summer too, but for me, I know what works for my body and against it. I know what to high light and what to cover. In the summer it’s no covering. It’s too HOT! There is sweat in places where I will not mention and things jiggle that I don’t think needs to be shown.  I don’t feel free to be 100% me, because there are so many limits. Yes, ladies don’t get me wrong I do love me, but something YOU and I should not be stepping into and outside in. Let’s be real! That being said confidence is the root to all happiness! Without confidence you can have on the most expensive clothing and you’ll look like it cost $2. Or have on a $2 outfit and your confidence is so high, others will think it’s the latest off the runways of Paris. We are able to have our confidence and not feel self conscious about if my arms are showing or my tights rubbing together. All of that is out the door with a cute cardigan and a pair of colored tights!

‘Tis the Season!

November 15, 2009

The Holiday season is among us with all the running around trying to get the turkey and yams, finding out whose house Thanksgiving dinner will be held, and planning for our Christmas list budget. We sometimes forget to stop and take the time out to think about actually all we have to be Thankful For!  When you look at all the blessings you have been given it really should blow you away.  For example let’s just take that closet full of shoes that we just had to have because you said they each serve a different purpose or the nine pair of blue denim jeans hanging in our closet. “And we say we have nothing to wear”. We really have more than enough! Those are all small things in comparison with good health and family that we have in our life to be Thankful for. But because we are who we are we forget about what we have and focus on what we don’t have or what someone else has!  Don’t get me wrong I love a nice pair of black pumps.  I also believe that we shall receive the desires of our hearts; be it a pair of vintage knee-high distressed leather boot with side detail and rubber sole ( This is a boutique/fashion blog!!). Sometimes we need to take time to get our minds off of the “stuff” to be reminded that we have so much to be thankful for. So start right now by sharing what YOU are Thankful for! Remember ladies be thankful for your cuves!!
